How it all started:
My name is Vic and I am the Director of Vic’s Flicks. Because I love the old classic movies I took the opportunity in 1999 to show a couple of movies at a nursing home on a borrowed data projector and DVD player.
The enjoyment and pleasure the residents obtained from seeing “Call Me Madam” with Ethel Merman or “Calamity Jane” with Doris Day was out of this world.
Then Vic's Flicks purchased a data projector, 8 foot screen a home threatre unit (amplifier, speakers and DVD player combination) to assist aged care facilities (such as nursing home).
Thus Vic’s Flicks was formed to assist in the showing of old movies to small and large disadvantaged groups who might have difficulty in traveling and who can remember and appreciate the true classic movies.
The movies can be projected onto a large screen or shown on the TV.
What we would like to do:
Our aim is to give a group of people a bit of cheering up (nursing home, retirement village) especially those who remember and appreciate the old classic movies (before 1980).
If you would like us to assist you in showing the old classic movies please contact us. We do not do this for financial gain.
I dont know why we require a licence to screen FREE classic old movies to the elderly and those having a disability but until things change, we do. It is recommended you contact Village Roadshow PPL at: Village Roadshow Public Performance Licence (PPL).
If you would like to assist us in some way please contact us. We are at present in the North-West Suburbs of Melbourne. You will need to have a love for the old movies and a desire to assist the dsadvantaged.
How we survive:
Vic’s Flicks doesn’t ask or seek any payment. It is a not-for-profit organisation and previously the community arm of Cammatech Pty Ltd.
Cammatech was originally formed to undertake research and development in vocational training. It is now time to give something back to the community.
Costs associated with running and maintaining the equipment was initially met by Cammatech Pty Ltd and any donations/assistance that might come our way. Cammatech Pty Ltd is now closed and Vic's Flicks has developed into a popular not-for-profit organisation looked after by five (5) hard working retired volunteers.
We have had a number of people who have donated their old movies to us and this is very much appreciated, but please note we are in Melbourne Australia.
